This week, we recognize LaWanda Spinner, Airbus U.S. Space & Defense’s Total Rewards Program Manager located in Arlington, Va.

Spinner is retiring this Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, after 39 years of service in human resources, which she calls the “Pulse of the Company.” Over the course of her career, she has worked as a Human Resources Subject Matter Expert within the Department of Defense, profit, and non-profit industries. She has worked for Airbus U.S. Space & Defense for nearly nine years.

Spinner was initially drawn to the Human Resources field when she worked as an administrative assistant in her high school’s summer work program. She quickly realized her liking for helping staff members in the office.

“I was drawn to the role of helping to provide and maintain Benefit programs because I found them to be what matters most to employees and how they can meet the needs of their families,” she said.

At Airbus U.S., Spinner’s work focuses on working with Management and Employees on the compensation and benefits programs and managing the Human Resources systems within the department.

“Working for Airbus U.S. has given me great pride in knowing our role within the industry when you look at our country’s needs in Space and Defense,” she said.

When asked what has kept Spinner inspired in her career, she said the people.

“I am such a people person,” she said. “I love it when everything works out.”

Outside of work, Spinner enjoys spending time with her family, from Sunday dinners together to watching their sporting events. She is passionate about gospel music and plans to return to her role of directing her church choir as soon as she can.
