Meet Tyler Kirkpatrick, an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager located in Mobile, Al. Tyler is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations at the site level to help maintain a safe and sustainable workplace.

Tyler’s interest in the field began during his time in the U.S. Air Force, where he was assigned the job of a Bioenvironmental Technician after basic training. Over his six years of service, he conducted health and environmental surveys, audits, and responses.

“Seeing proactive measures safeguard people and the environment sparked my passion,” he said.

For the past three years at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, Tyler has continued to apply his expertise and found fulfillment in his role’s tangible impact.

“I feel proud to work for a U.S. defense contractor that enhances the capability of warfighters on the ground,” he said.

One of Tyler’s most rewarding experiences in his current role has been successfully implementing ventilation and other control measures for the component repair shop during the construction of their new facility.

“Being able to influence building something from the ground up with safety and enhanced operations in mind gave me a real sense of accomplishment,” he said.

Tyler advises those interested in a career in his field to find a mentor who can teach both the on-the-ground and administrative aspects of the industry.

“Having a mentor is a force multiplier when it comes to any type of work,” he said. “It helps you grow more confident in the decisions you make on your own.”

Outside of work, Tyler enjoys reconditioning old military surplus and uniforms, and working on his cars.

“For me, the purpose in life is to leave something better than you found it, whether it’s by mitigating health hazards at work or making a worn-out uniform or car look and work better at home.”
