Meet Sonya Dawson, our Senior Supply Chain Governance Manager based in Rosslyn, Va. Sonya leads a team that ensures our supply chain complies with customer requirements and regulatory standards. Her team also enhances processes and optimizes tools so the Supply Chain Organization can perform efficiently and effectively.

Sonya’s professional background spans a wide range of responsibilities in both government and commercial sectors, with the common thread of being the “go-to problem solver.”

Her decision to join Airbus U.S. Space & Defense in 2018 was driven by a desire to give back to the American Service Members she looked up to as a child. Growing up abroad in developing countries during uncertain times instilled a deep respect and appreciation for service members.

“It feels incredibly fulfilling to give back to them,” she said.

Working in the space and defense industry has offered Sonya an inspiring and energizing environment. She claims she has not been bored a single day since she started at the company.

“I love how it actually is rocket science!” she said. “This industry is constantly evolving, adapting, and pushing the limits of imagination. There is something new to learn every day.”

One principle that continues to guide Sonya in her career is what she calls the “one percent better every day” rule.

“I’ve learned that small, manageable steps grow exponentially over time into significant improvement,” she said.

When asked what makes Airbus U.S. Space & Defense special, Sonya answered with the people.

“The people here are some of the best people I have met in my life,” she said. “The talent I collaborate with daily is nothing short of impressive. When you add to that their incredible character, it creates a remarkable experience.”

Outside of work, she enjoys travel, cooking, and spending time with her family and dogs.
