Meet James Wagner Jr.

Meet James Wagner Jr., a Project Manager for our UH-72 Lakota Program. In this role, he oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of complex and innovative projects for the UH-72 program.

James has worked at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense for three years. Prior to joining the company, he worked at Airbus Helicopters for seventeen years.

James grew up in a helicopter-focused household, which helped shape his career path.

“I’m a third-generation helicopter technician and grew up in the industry,” he said, “My grandpa started working on helicopters during the Korean War and came home to start his own maintenance shop.”

One aspect of work that James take pride in is supporting our Military customers.

“The support we provide to our military customers is what makes me proud and keeps me coming into work every day,” he said. “I am passionate about advancing the field of aerospace and contributing to the mission of Airbus, which is to make the world a safer, more connected, and more prosperous place.”

Asked about favorite memories at Airbus, James said it has been watching the Lakota Program grow.

“Being part of the first Lakota delivery and supporting its initial systems testing was very memorable,” he said. “Additionally, seeing how Airbus and the Lakota program have grown over the last 20 years has been excellent.”

Outside of work, James recently earned his bachelor’s degree.

“In January 2021, I made the decision to go back to school,” he said. “Then in August 2023, I earned my degree with a 3.89 GPA.”

He also enjoys other hobbies.

“Over the last few years, I have dedicated much of my free time to learning more about the cigar industry,” he said. “Not only do I enjoy learning about them and trying new cigars regularly, but I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with others.”
