Meet Jere Lewis, a Trade Compliance Manager supporting our Military Helicopters, UAS, and C4ISR lines of business. In this role, Jere ensures adherence to laws and regulations governing imports, exports, and licensing to facilitate the effective and efficient movement of global trade.

Jere has worked at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense for three years. Prior to joining the company, he has worked at multiple different defense companies, and has 25 years of trade compliance experience.

“It started during college when I worked at BWI airport watching planes unload at 4am for an express courier,” he said. “The station manager asked me if I wanted an office job learning imports, I changed my major to international logistics and became a license U.S Customs Broker.”

A piece of advice Jere would give anyone who wants to join the space and defense industry is to try and learn everything.

“Don’t be a one trick pony,” he said. “If you know imports, you must learn exports and vice versa.”

Jere enjoys being able to share his knowledge of the industry with anyone that asks.

“I love passing down my experiences and knowledge,” he said. “Whether that’s to educate people in the field or foster the improvement of processes within the trade community.”

Jere’s favorite memory from Airbus U.S. is being able to physical travel to see our products.

“Visiting Airbus Helicopters in Donauworth, Germany,” he said. “Being able to appreciate meeting others, diving into their processes and having an interaction with folks that make the rotor blades turn.”

Outside of work, Jere is an avid traveler and enjoys exploring new places.

“To date I’ve traveled to 75 countries different countries and have lived in Switzerland, China and Saudi Arabi.”
